At the most recent meeting of the RTP chapter of the International Society of Managing and Technical Editors (ISMTE), Phillip Harrell introduced Agile Project Management. Traditionally, project management involved scoping a project and then determining what time and resources were necessary. Planning and execution happened sequentially, and left little room for modifications or adjustments. Using Agile, you are encouraged to think resources and time first in order to start making progress toward your goals today.
Agile allows you to respond quickly to new information or a shift in priorities. To start, Phillip, a veteran of the software industry, suggests breaking work into small chunks. Time box yourself and think about how much time you have first: What can I get done in 30 minutes? Lastly, limit multitasking and aim to finish one thing before starting another.
